Who Should Attend
This interactive session is intended for staff that is responsible for communication with and the care of residents with dementia. It will benefit new or experienced caregivers, resident assistants, team leaders, shift supervisors and those who spend any amount of time with residents with dementia in or outside of dementia-specific communities.

About the Presenter
Jo Huey has been working with persons with Alzheimer's disease in 24-hour care settings since 1986. She has a Certificate in Gerontology and a Master of Social Science based on her thesis, Effectiveness of Training for Alzheimer's Caregivers. Jo is well known for her communication tool “The 10 Absolutes�. She is author of Alzheimer's Disease: Help and Hope, and her new book, Don't Leave Momma Home with the Dog, will be out in Spring 2007. Jo has served as chair of the board of directors of the Louisiana Assisted Living Association, president of the New Orleans Chapter of National Speakers Association, and in 2005 was named by New Orleans Magazine as one of the Top Ten Female Achievers. She was director of Alzheimer's Residential Care Homes which she opened in New Orleans in 1997. After evacuating those homes for Hurricane Katrina, she is temporarily located in Chicago, IL. Jo founded the Alzheimer's Caregiver Institute in 1999, and in 2007 became a Certified Alzheimer Educator (CAEd) issued by the National Certification Board for Alzheimer Care.

Fees
Early Bird (through June 5) - $100 for WALA members, $150 for non-members
After June 5 - $140 for WALA members, $190 for non-members

Refunds
No full refunds will be made after June 5, 2007. For cancellations after June 5, a voucher for future WALA educational events will be issued minus a $50 administration fee. Substitutions are encouraged.
