Several proposals targeting Alzheimer's Disease and dementia are being circulated in the Wisconsin Legislature, and include some ideas discussed by the Speaker's Task Force on Alzheimer's and Dementia during the 2015-16 legislative session.

The bills would:

  • Create a $1,000 tax credit for families who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia.
  • Make $500,000 in grants available to community programs across the state to raise awareness for Alzheimer's and dementia resources.
  • Create a council to study ways to improve care.

The bills were drafted on behalf of four Republican Assembly members.
"I would like to thank my Assembly colleagues for continuing the work of last session's Speaker's Task Force on Alzheimer's and Dementia," said Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Burlington). "The legislative package reflects our caucus' desire to help those with dementia, their caregivers and families. With a growing number of people dealing with forms of dementia, we must continue to explore legislative actions that can make a difference."
