Governor Walker Administration Prioritizes Direct Caregivers

in Agency Budget Request - Assisted Living Profession Grateful

The Wisconsin Assisted Living Association (WALA) is grateful that the Department of Health Services has included in its 2019-2021 state agency budget request a continuation of the Family Care “Direct Care Workforce Funding Initiative.”

Family Care is a state program that helps frail elders and adults with disabilities receive the services they need in the long-term care continuum.  The Direct Care Workforce Funding Initiative was created by the State Legislature and Governor Walker in the 2017-19 biennial budget to help address the long-term care workforce crisis.

“The Direct Care Workforce Funding Initiative has been and continues to be a priority to assisted living providers, as Wisconsin continues to face a crisis in the shortage of available frontline caregivers,” stated Michael Pochowski, CEO of WALA. “We applaud the inclusion and continuation of this critically needed caregiver initiative in the department budget request.”
