2023 State of Assisted Living Report
Last week, the Wisconsin Division of Quality Assurance/Bureau of Assisted Living released its annual State of Assisted Living report. As we mentioned last week, the report includes the following:
- There are 4,005 assisted living facilities in Wisconsin
- Residential Care Apartment Complexes (RCAC): 366
- Community Based Residential Facilities (CBRF): 1,558
- Adult Family Homes, 3-4 beds (AFH): 2,081
- 148 assisted living facilities voluntarily closed in 2023 which includes 9 licensure revocations
- In 2023, there were 2,409 complaints filed with DQA
- RCAC: 296
- CBRF: 1,700
- AFH: 413
- 28% of assisted living providers had at least 1 complaint filed against them whereas 72% had no complaints against them
- 46% of the complaints were substantiated and 54% were unsubstantiated
- There were 1,248 surveys that had an enforcement action
- 21% of providers had an enforcement action whereas 79% had no enforcement action
DQA also provided information as it relates to reports against caregivers:
- There were 7,097 reports filed of which 76% were self-reported by a provider:
- RCAC: 140
- CBRF: 1,115
- AFH: 379
- Nursing Home: 3,681
